These damn Harriers get everywhere….
Harrier Hannah kicked off August doing what she does best in the Go Tri Aquathlon
in Barnoldswick on 2nd August
Completing the 500m swim and 5k run in just 33:03 she’s loving the Aqualthlon thang…
Next Aquathlon up was Colne on 16th August where she breezed second place.
26th August saw a bigger Harriers turn out with the Elton Aquathlon and 3 of the water baby subsection of the Harriers attended to do the mile open water swim and 5K trail run.
Jo decided to take her goggles to bits 5 minutes before the start and John Holt apparently didn’t prepare or pack some of the more useful bits of kit for the evening race.
The water was pretty chilly, and the run was muddy and lumpy, with added face fulls of flighty creatures and good crop of nettles mid way round.
What we thought would be a local friendly evening race was populated with people from Rochdale Tri, Rossy Tri, Bolton Tri and Astlley and Tydlesy tri clubs. So a bit of added pressure on the night, making Hannah’s 2nd lady home and 14th overall even more impressive. John Holt was not far behind in 18th place. Jo overcame her goggle problems to finish without drowning or walking the run section – always a bonus! Great fun night out – results here
And in running news…..
13th August in the Pilgrims Cross race, Mick Horan was first Harrier in, coming 10th overall and 2nd MV40.
Greg Webster and John Holt completed the Harriers showing, battling it out in a close fought race between them. Great work.
A Lakeland classic called Jonny Nicholson and Matt Driver on 24th August. Jonny said that “The race was great in a type 2 fun kind of way. Straight out of the field the steeeep ascent starts with both of us close at the wall crossing. I then turned to jelly and Matt stormed off ultimately finishing in 17:30 ish and 30th place. I finished in 20.34. A real classic race that not only tests your uphill prowess but bottle on the descent, seriously steep. All good fun anyway!”
Hats off to them – a short sharp tough classic.
Matt was the lone Harrier in the midweek Golfball fell race on 20th August. In a brilliant run, Matt came in 5th overall, and 3rd in his category – brilliant work Driver!
The Harriers conquer Canada!
Clare and John Raho found time on their honeymoon to do a spot of racing. On 16th August, they did a 10k race, http://racesplitter.com/races/F3E786F8A
2nd place for both of them shows that these here Lancashire fells are training for international success!
