first 3 finishers

The first three men discuss tactics over a well deserved drink.

Despite the thick early morning fog, the sun came out for a very well contested first running of what turned out to be a very closely fought race.

Joe Mercer, very much at home on the fell, took a commanding lead from the off and was first into transition in a good time of 31.49. However the cycle section saw a change of guard with Richard Hand putting in an impressive time of 48.42 entering the second transition equal first with Jamie Fradgley. Joe arrived soon after so the race was on with the final running including the exhaustingly steep climb up to Peel Tower. We were not disappointed with Joe clawing back the lead off Jamie in the closing stages taking the victory in 1.58.08. Only 42 seconds split the first three finishers.

In the women’s race, Donna Edmondson Booker led from the start taking the fastest first run along with the fastest bike time coming home in 2.15.32. Katy Foster put in a very strong second run to come in second with Julia Hartley taking third.

The fastest bike time of the day was 45.42 (average speed = 35.4km/h) was set by Adam Robinson.

The fastest female bike time of the day of 55.09 (average speed = 29.4km/hr) was set by Donna Edmondson Booker

They take the trophies commemorating the Holcombe Mountain Timetrial Circuit and set a tough record which will take some beating.
